Come and see work-in-progress on our new pond and water harvesting system. Learn about the importance of water in the garden not just in terms of watering, but also in creating a water area to attract wildlife. We shall be explaining how wildlife ponds absorb carbon and greenhouse gases and are essential in the battle against climate change. In addition to the pond, we shall also be promoting the idea of harvesting rainwater rather than using tap water and the benefits of doing this.
We welcome all ages, families, garden lovers, people who feel they need to do more climate friendly activities and those who want to encourage greater biodiversity into their own garden.
Our pond will not be completed by then, but we shall be demonstrating the processes involved in creating a wildlife friendly pond. We will highlight the different forms of wildlife a pond can attract, how it can be vital in fighting climate change and discussing the benefits of having greater biodiversity in the garden setting.
We shall be answering questions and giving people demonstrations and tips to create one in their own garden, no matter how small. We shall also provide guidance on the best plants to use in a wildlife pond, including oxygenators.
Notes will be distributed on the benefits of wildlife ponds along with step by step instructions on how to create your own.
We shall also be discussing the benefits of harvesting rainwater, and will look at the differences between rainwater and tap water when it comes to plants.
For the younger attendees we shall be providing small watering cans and showing them how to effectively water areas of the garden. We shall also help them to create their own little wildlife ponds, bee drinking stations and birdbaths using basins and old kitchen vessels.
Tea, coffee and juice will be provided as well as baking, using jams and produce from the garden.
There will also be live music performed by a local musician, using water as their theme!
Location Specifics: Inverkeithing Community Garden, Abbot Place, off Queen St, KY11 1PA. At the end of the car park behind the Civic Centre
