This special event, taking place as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, reflects upon artist Mary Barnes’ life in Scotland, her deep connection to nature and her spiritual beliefs.
It was while undergoing regression therapy at psychiatrist R. D. Laing’s experimental community Kingsley Hall from 1965-70, that Barnes first discovered her artistic talent. Using her fingers to create visceral oil paintings on the themes of crucifixion, resurrection, and her connection to nature, Barnes went on to become a widely exhibited artist and mental health campaigner.
Join us at the Chapel Royal in Falkland in a celebration of her life and legacy, a place she lived and her final place of rest.
Co-hosted by Ninian Stuart (Keeper of Falkland Palace) and Professor Victoria Tischler, this event brings together therapists, friends and academics to reflect upon and celebrate Barnes’ life and work. They are joined by creative arts worker Anthea McKinlay, developmental psychologist Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, music therapist George Francis, and Dr Huw Lloyd-Richards, Honorary Research Fellow, University of St Andrews.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
