Restricted Code – Crail Festival 2026
Led by Crail’s own Tom Cannavan, one of Scotland’s legendary New Wave bands, Restricted Code, has returned stronger than ever. Their 2025 album Chasing Shadows hit #13 in the Official Charts and drew glowing praise from The Scotsman: “Classy ScotPop… warm electric piano, crooning vocals and melodic synths.”
Originally one of Scotland’s most exciting bands of the 1980s, Restricted Code recorded John Peel sessions, toured the UK and Europe with The Human League, and were hailed by Sounds magazine for delivering the “Best Gig of the Year.”
Reformed in 2018 with all original members, the band continues to craft intelligent, vibrant music true to their New Wave roots. Fans and critics alike compare their style to Talking Heads, Bowie, and Roxy Music—yet their sound remains uniquely their own. Recent shows have earned rave reactions: “Fantastic night! You were on top form; we loved the gig!”
For Crail Festival, expect to hear Chasing Shadows in full alongside the very best of their back catalogue and fresh new material. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the bands who defined “The Sound of Young Scotland” live on stage—bringing their music bang up to date for 2026.
This is a BYO (Bring Your Own) bottle-and-glass event. We invite you to bring your favourite drinks and the glassware you'll need to enjoy them, as no bar service will be available.
