James hosts another stellar line up at the Byre:
Andy Irvine
Katherine Priddy
Len Pennie
Andy Irvine
Andy Irvine is one of Ireland’s most iconic singers, praised as a tradition in himself with a voice that reaches the soul of Irish music. For over 50 years, he has remained a pioneering force in folk and world music. Starting with Sweeney’s Men in the 1960s, he went on to co-found Planxty and later collaborated with Paul Brady, producing their landmark album in 1976. Irvine’s travels through Eastern Europe deeply influenced his style, fusing Balkan rhythms with Irish tradition. He has performed with groups like Patrick Street, Mozaik and Usher’s Island, while maintaining a solo career greatly inspired by Woody Guthrie. His repertoire includes Irish ballads, Balkan tunes, and original songs like Never Tire of the Road. Celebrated for his innovation and authenticity, Irvine has played worldwide, from Japan to South America, and continues to captivate audiences as a master storyteller and true troubadour of folk music.
Katherine Priddy
Katherine Priddy is one of the most exciting names on the British folk music scene. Her haunting vocals and distinctive finger-picking guitar style have already seen her sell out headline tours including London’s Union Chapel, perform at prestigious festivals around the UK and abroad and work with a number of high profile artists. Katherine released debut album, The Eternal Rocks Beneath in 2021 and its hotly anticipated follow up The Pendulum Swing in 2025 which was widely greeted with critical acclaim. Her live performances are engaging, moving and amusing by turn, delivering original songs with emotional maturity, depth and particularly noteworthy lyrics.
Len Pennie
Len Pennie is a poet who writes predominantly in the Scots language. She writes passionately about the promotion of minority languages, survivors of domestic abuse, and the destigmatisation of mental illness. She became known on social media in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland for her Scots word of the day and poem (poyum) videos. Her debut poetry collection Poyums went straight to the top of the best sellers list. “Hugely entertaining and intelligent” – The Scotsman
Running time: 2 hours 55 minutes (includes two 15m intervals)
