A chance encounter, between disaffected housewife Evelyn (Kathy Bates) and carehome resident Ninny (Jessica Tandy), blossoms into a friendship across generations. Ninny’s tales of her free-spirited sister-in-law Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson), owner of the Whistle Stop Café in Alabama in the 1920s, give Evelyn the confidence to change her own life for the better.
