Directed by Babak Jalali and starring newcomer Anaita Wali Zada alongside Emmy-winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Fremont follows the life of Donya, a young Afghan migrant living in California. Having worked as a translator for the US army, she now spends her days in a fortune cookie factory and her nights grappling with guilt, isolation, and the hope for connection. One day, she sends a message into the world through a cookie – and the story unfolds from there.

Why This Film, Why Now?

From drought to war, the climate crisis is a key driver of displacement worldwide. Standing in solidarity with refugees and displaced people is part of climate justice. Our Superpower is the community and the way we take care of each other.

This screening is a chance to reflect on the human cost of global crises, while also celebrating the strength, creativity, and resilience of people seeking sanctuary.

Who’s Involved
This event is supported by Fife Climate Hub and The Hive Café, an LGBTQ+ inclusive community space, who are working to build inclusive, climate-conscious communities across Fife.

Come Along
Everyone is welcome—whether you’re curious about the film, passionate about justice, or simply want to share space with others in solidarity and celebration.

Free popcorn and a soft drink (other refreshments available for purchase).
