Join geologists and palaeontologists from the Scottish Geology Trust on Limekilns Beach (next to the pier) between 11:00am – 1:00pm on Tuesday the 3rd of October to explore the stories hidden in the stones.
Limekilns isn’t a traditional pebble beach – its location along the shore of the Firth of Forth makes for an eclectic mix of materials. From ship ballast and artificial objects like brick fragments and slag waste that remind us of our industrial past, to ancient pebbles deposited as a raised beach when sea levels were higher, to angular Carboniferous limestone fragments full of fossils eroding from local bedrock.. there’s a wee bit of everything!
This is a free drop-in event, no need to book. Stay safe: take care on the beach, watch your step and come prepared for the weather. Children very welcome, but must be supervised by an adult at all times. In the event of bad weather, the event may be cancelled or postponed.
The beach is situated in the village of Limekilns, West Fife, on the west side of Limekilns Pier (next to the pier and car park), KY11 3HN. There is parking at the pier and along the waterfront.
The number 6 Stagecoach bus from Dunfermline stops on the Promenade at the Pier. There are also local amenities such as cafes and bars very close by on Main Street, and further along the Promenade. The closest public toilets are in the neighbouring village of Charlestown (3 Main Road, KY11 3ED).
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
