About Open Doors Weekend - St Athernase Church of Scotland

St Athernase Church of Scotland is one of the finest Romanesque buildings in Scotland. Set on a hill in the centre of the village of Leuchars, it has been a focal point for the community for over 800 years.

The chancel and apse date from the 12th century and feature blind arcading in a style shared with Durham Cathedral. The interior has interesting grave slabs and many masons marks- you can see the history of the many changes in the building written in its fabric and also discover what our plans are for the future.

Conducted tours of the church will be available and refreshments will be provided in the adjoining Church Coachhouse.
