Cardenden Village Fair

About Cardenden Village Fair

Cardenden Village Fair is excited to bring you our annual event on 25 August 2024. We aim to bring awareness, together with a wide variety of organisations, agencies, businesses and charities helping them raise funds as well as having an entertaining fun day.

Our theme this year is "Volunteering". We are delighted to welcome Pamela Bennett, Volunteering Development Officer with Fife Voluntary Action who has recently taken over the Cardenden, Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly area.

“Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) is the third sector interface for the Fife Council area. They ensure the third sector is robust, resilient, and delivers high quality services for the people of Fife. They offer advice on a wide range of volunteering opportunities and help with the practical side of volunteering such as travel expenses and volunteering while on benefits. They have a wide range of volunteering opportunities for hundreds of organisations across Fife, helping you to choose the right role for you.”

I hope as many of you will be able to visit Pamela’s stall gaining advice and seeking new opportunities to join in with. We will also be adding helpful information and links to our website that you can check out.

We are delighted and honoured to have Carolyn Johnston (OnFife) joining us, who has recently had a successful run with Kirkcaldy Galleries and Dunfermline Carnegie and has had permission from the SFA to extend this exhibition to our event:

“Hampden Museum's touring exhibition on the history of Scottish Women's football, in the interwar years, between 1918 and 1939. It specifically focuses on Rutherglen F.C. who were the unofficial Scotland national team and one of their leading centre forwards was a local lass, May Watson. She was captain of Bowhill Ladies at the age of 15 years and was scouted by the manager of Rutherglen, to join his team and toured Scotland, England and Ireland, before hanging up her boots to get married. May's descendants still live in Cardenden, including her grand-daughters, great and great great grandchildren, who are keen to share her story and have her celebrated after 100 years.”

Oliver's Army Assistance Dogs & Therapy who will be coming along for their third year with us. They will also be presenting their Bronze Kennel Award which is open to members of the public to join.

“Do you think your dog is able to achieve bronze level with The Kennel Club? Would you like to give it a go? We are having a Bronze Kennel Club Testing Event at Cardenden Village Fair. You will be put through the assessment and have the chance to achieve the Bronze Kennel Club Award!”

See our website and Facebook page for more details. We are really excited to see this taking place. Hopefully they will also find time to put on a demonstration in our entertainment area!

Oliver's Army Assistance Dogs "support children and adults living with a range of conditions from autism, ADHD and learning difficulties to physical disability, visual impairment and PTSD by providing assistance and therapy dogs.”

We will have Melville Equestrian providing pony rides joining us for their second year; and Alba Falconry, a firm favourite and popular attraction, giving you a chance to have your photo taken with a bird of prey.

Deansie's Designs Face Painter's coming for their third year – always popular. Also, John's Airbrush Tattoos for his second year with us – a new eye opener for our event last year!

We have a wonderful list of crafters/local businesses you are sure to want to come back to for your gift lists. Links will be on our website. Some joined us for our first Christmas Craft Fair and there is a website page giving you a little insight to their stalls from their visit.

We also have many charitable causes/groups stalls. Check our social media for more details.

Our regular provider Andrew Masterton will be with us offering his chair-o-plane and toyset rides for the younger ones, bouncy castles and bungee trampolines. Rides will open around 11 am.

We will be entertained by our very own Bowhill Karate Club, George with the Kirkcaldy & District Pipe Band; and the very wonderful and very talented young dancers who joined us last year for their second time - Danielle Law School of Dance & Music - Highland Dancers.

Between entertainment slots there will be lots more fun with the children's races. Kindly organised by John Gilfillan. John has always made our day special!

We look forward to inviting you to enjoy food & ice-cream and lots of fun!

Entry to the park is free but show rides, falconry, ponies, face painting, all crafts, charities and vendors will have individual charges to take part.

Disabled toilets will be available - kindly provided by the Bowling Club (nearest) and Bowhill Community Centre. There will be a First Aid tent in situ and our DJ Kenny will make regular announcements.

We hope you can come and enjoy joining us!

Many thanks to the Scouts for all their help on setting up, providing hospitality to our entertainers and volunteers and help with clearing at the end! Our event wouldn't be able to take place without them!

Big thanks to our kind sponsors too! We are grateful for the continued grant aid provided annually by Ventient Westfield Cardenden Community Fund administered by Foundation Scotland.
