HQ Explorer PAST-PORT

About HQ Explorer PAST-PORT

This Summer, families can explore the world without leaving Dunfermline using the HQ Explorer PAST-PORT! During the Fife School Summer Holidays, families are invited to explore Dunfermline’s global connections with FREE fun activities in the city’s Heritage Quarter. Young visitors can take part in a variety of activities including scavenger hunts, flag trails, and making your own passport. By completing the activities and collecting all four stamps in their PAST-PORT, families will have fun learning about Dunfermline’s impact on the world, and earn a certificate. Families can take part over one day, several days, or the whole holidays.

The theme of ‘Going Global’ has been chosen to celebrate the Scottish City’s impact around the world as well as the influences other countries and cultures have had on the ancient royal burgh. The HQExplorer PAST-PORT scheme has become increasingly popular over the past year with hundreds of local children and young visitors to the historic city of Dunfermline taking part. Parents and carers have been enthusiastic in their feedback too, saying that “it’s a brilliant way to get kids engaged with history”, “encourages us to explore locally”, and “provides a memorable experience”!

The activities are being offered by the Abbey Church of Dunfermline, Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, Historic Environment Scotland’s Dunfermline Abbey Nave and Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries. PAST-PORTS are FREE and can be picked up at any of the four venues. Note: Before you visit, remember to check each venue for opening hours which vary, and pre-booking may be required.

The activities are available from Saturday 1st July to Sunday 13th August and families are invited to share photos of their PAST-PORT city celebrations on social media using the hashtags ‘#HQExplorers’ and ‘#GoingGlobal.
