Biggest Ever Quiz Turnout Raises Record Amount In Memory Of Local Hero
The family of Captain David Seath has paid an emotional tribute to the local people of Dunfermline who attended this year’s annual Captain David Seath Memorial Fund Quiz.

Gary Seath, Founder, says that he and his family are overwhelmed by the support shown, which saw a record 130 people attend the Quiz at Garvock House Hotel in aid of Help for Heroes, and by the generosity of people who donated prizes and Incontri Italian Restaurant, who sponsored the event.
Gary, who is David's brother, said: “We’ve raised an additional £2,000 on the evening, which brings our overall fundraising total to more than £350,000 to support veterans across Scotland, in memory of my brother. We’re so pleased to be able to support a cause that he was so passionate about.”
“As an Officer in 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, Captain David Seath was deeply passionate about supporting the well-being of men and women under his command. He was equally inspired to do all he could to support those returning from life-changing physical and psychological wounds through several armed forces charities. He was taking part in the London Marathon in 2016, in support of Help for Heroes, when he tragically died 3.2 miles short of the finish line.”
Gary added: “The funds raised through this event are vital – Help for Heroes saw a 36% increase in calls for support from the armed forces community last year and these funds are ring-fenced to support veterans in Scotland. As a result of the money raised in my brother's memory, we’ve been able to ensure veterans can access support to help with their recovery and rehabilitation, reducing isolation and loneliness, providing employability and skills training, providing family grants, mental health services, and much more.”
Felicity Johnston was part of the winning ‘Trivia Newton John’ team on the night and was formallyinvolved with 1145 Air Cadet Training Squadron, which David attended in the late 1990s. She said: “We made sure that we had this one in the diary because we love a quiz and it’s a charity that is close to our hearts. I think it is really amazing that we’re coming together to support veterans. I feel like a lot of the time they maybe get overlooked or forgotten about. And I think that, you know, they are a massive part of the country, and they need to be helped through whatever they’re going through, after serving their country.”
Help for Heroes champions the Armed Forces community and helps people live well after service. The Charity supports veterans and their families with their physical and mental health, as well as welfare and social needs. It has already supported tens of thousands - and won’t stop until every veteran gets the support they deserve.
The Charity supports veterans and their families from any branch of the UK military – regulars or reserves – irrespective of length or place of service, and locally embedded civilians who worked under the command of UK Armed Forces.
