A Scottish brewer has invited cameras into its office as it launches a new mockumentary series that offers an irreverent behind-the-scenes look at the beer industry — while poking fun at itself along the way.
This unique ‘fly on the wall’ series showcases Innis & Gunn’s real-life employees, including founder Dougal Sharp and commercial director Crawford Sinclair, alongside special guest stars: Scottish comedians Paul Dockery and Katie McKenzie.
The opening episode of the series, produced by BAFTA-winning creative agency Studio Something, begins with the Innis & Gunn team brainstorming how to take on “fancy foreign beer”, culminating in the creation of an ‘Iññez & Gunn’ Spanish cerveza.
The premium beer business is an active supporter of Scotland’s creative industry: as well as being headline sponsor of Celtic Connections, the brewer is the official beer partner for BAFTA Scotland and the Fringe.
Founder and master brewer Dougal Sharp said: “Since founding Innis & Gunn in 2003, we’ve always done things differently. This mockumentary series is a perfect reflection of our ethos – shining a light on our team, our partners, our creativity, and the beer world’s quirks, all while having a bit of fun. This isn’t just a marketing gimmick – it’s a tribute to Scotland’s vibrant beer culture and creative industries.
“Unlike the brewers who claim to be Mediterranean but are actually British, we have nothing to hide. Throughout the series we’ll lampoon the trends we don’t need to follow, because our beer is so good, and the absurdities of the beer industry. Most importantly, we’ll celebrate what makes great Scottish beer – and the people behind it – so special.”
To mark the series launch, Innis & Gunn invites fans to visit their Edinburgh and Glasgow taprooms on Monday (2nd December) and say ‘Hola Amigo’ to receive a complimentary pint of their premium Scottish lager. Throughout the series, the brewer will surprise and delight beer drinkers with more spontaneous acts of generosity.
Innis & Gunn’s flagship lager continues to win accolades, including a recent gold medal at the World Beer Awards, cementing its place as Scotland’s leading premium lager.
The first episode of the Mockumentary series is live now, in what the brewer has called “fancy foreign beer Thursdays”, with more episodes set to drop in the coming weeks.
