Ron Lawson is widely regarded as Scotland’s most original and distinctive contemporary landscape artist working today. Having exhibited his work professionally for almost 45 years, he has built up a huge global following for his unique paintings of the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The incredible demand for his work from collectors world-wide means he is one of the few artists in today’s market to regularly achieve sell-out exhibitions, a true testament to the quality of the art and Ron’s tremendous talent and hard work.
With his highly intricate, meticulous paintings, Ron achieves what every artist desires, instantly recognisable work. Using a limited colour palette, he perfectly captures detailed scenes of the Scottish wilderness and its terrain, against his trademark stark, flat (usually grey) skies - Endless skies; vast landscapes dotted with lone cottages; dramatic mountainscapes and rugged coastlines.
For Ron’s largest Solo Exhibition in over three years, he has been thrilled to be able to return to his beloved Highlands and Islands for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Inspired by his recent travels and viewing locations from a different perspective, he has produced a new body of over 55 paintings.
As well as capturing his distinctive shorelines and croftscapes, Ron is also looking towards higher ground to include his experiences of some of Scotland’s majestic mountains. Having developed a fascination for the terrain and geology of the Scotland over the years, Ron is incorporating more of the rocky environment he loves into this collection with lighthouses sitting on incredible clifftops and the remote, rocky island of Eriskay. Regardless of Ron’s chosen subject matter though, it is his relentless pursuit of capturing the feeling of standing in a remote and beautiful Scottish location that drives him on and continues to create incredible demand for his paintings.

The exhibition opens 10am on Sat 30th October at The Strathearn Gallery and continues until 21st November 2021.
