People have started taking to Facebook, Twitter and TikTok using a quirky new challenge to raise vital funds for a charity caring for Scots with conditions that put them at high risk from the coronavirus outbreak.
Supporters of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and staff have turned to cups of tea to raise vital funds for the charity during this difficult time.
The challenge is simple - you film yourself throwing a teabag into a mug from a distance and share it on your social media channels using #TeaBagChallenge and tag @CHSScotland. Then nominate your friends and donate £5 to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland like many others across the UK, has felt the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. They have had to close their chain of charity shops, postpone or cancel fundraising events and ensure that their vital support services can be accessed online or over the phone.
The charity has said that all money raised from the challenge will go towards providing one to one support over the phone and online to make sure people with chest heart and stroke conditions don’t fight the virus alone – and to help people recover if they experience serious complications from the virus.
Jane-Claire Judson, Chief Executive at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, said: “We want to make sure that no one at risk from coronavirus faces this outbreak alone. People with long term conditions like COPD need support more than ever right now and it is absolutely incredible to see the innovative ways people are rallying round to help.
“At Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland we never underestimate the power of a cup of tea. You might not be able to share a cuppa with your friends and family right now, but you can do this simple challenge to help people across Scotland live their lives to the full.
“So, while we’re all at home, why not make your tea-break matter and do the #TeaBagChallenge for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland today!
“Every pound raised will help support people at risk from the virus and support the recovery of those who survive it.”
Richard Cowan, 69 from Aberdeenshire, is living with COPD. He said: “Living with COPD during the coronavirus outbreak is a really scary time.
“It’s been very difficult as I can’t see my grandchildren, but it put such a smile on my face to see them getting involved in this fun challenge.
“It’s heart-warming to see families coming together and doing something positive to help make sure there is support for people like me who are at risk from coronavirus.
“Please encourage your family to get involved and donate whatever they can. Sharing positivity right now is so important.”
