The production wowed audiences and critics alike when it was first staged in Glasgow’s Kibble Palace going on to pick up an Outstanding Performance Award (Nicole Cooper) and the supreme award, Best Production, at the 2022 Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland
Now audiences across the country will be able to experience this exhilarating production as Bard in the Botanics, in association with Raw Material and supported by Macrobert Arts Centre, takes the show on tour around Scotland. (Scroll down for the full tour dates)
This new production sees Nicole Cooper reprise her “unforgettable performance as the wronged, powerfully human demigoddess Medea” (Mark Brown, Sunday National) with the full original cast of Johnny Panchaud (Jason), Alan Steele (Creon / Tutor) and Isabelle Joss (Nurse) also returning for the tour.
Artistic Director, Gordon Barr, says: “We're delighted to have received funding from Creative Scotland's Touring Fund to bring Kathy McKean’s electrifying version of Medea to audiences across Scotland and to have the opportunity to introduce them both to Bard in the Botanics' work and this amazing story.”
Playwright, Kathy McKean says: “I’m so grateful for the generous response to the original production and to be working again with an incredible team to share this powerful story with a wider audience.”
Medea was our first ever commissioned script. We joined forces with Kathy McKean again two years later for a version of Hedda Gabler, again starring Nicole Cooper in the title role, which also went on to scoop a CATS Best Production Award (2024).
