Acclaimed Scottish folk four-piece Gnoss are back with a brand-new single ‘Emily’ - a vibrant and atmospheric new track that captures the band’s signature blend of contemporary energy and acoustic precision. Set for release on Friday 25th July, the track is their first vocal-led single since 2021 and arrives just in time for a busy international festival run across France, Belgium, England, Wales and Canada.
‘Emily’ was written by Aidan Moodie and recorded with the full band in Castlesound Studios, taking a stripped-back approach to reflect the raw intimacy of their celebrated live shows. Capturing the band’s collaborative musical spirit in full flow, the single features Aidan Moodie (guitar/vocals), Graham Rorie (electric tenor guitar), Connor Sinclair (synths/vocals) and Craig Baxter (bodhrán), alongside special guest James Lindsay (Breabach) on double bass.
Aidan Moodie said: “It felt like the perfect moment to release something new ahead of a busy summer on the road. 'Emily' is our first vocal single in over four years, and we wanted to share something fresh that people could really connect with and enjoy singing along to at the array of international festivals we are set to play at throughout the rest of the year."
The track is part of a broader collection of songs recorded earlier this year and follows the instrumental single ‘HJOP’, released in May. ‘Emily’ continues Gnoss’ evolving journey through original composition, dynamic arrangements and a commitment to delivering thoughtful, finely crafted music that resonates across genres.
The single comes just after the band announced two major Scottish headline shows in October - La Belle Angelle in Edinburgh on Thursday 16th and The Art School in Glasgow on Friday 25th.
Graham Rorie said: “Some of our earliest memories of playing together were in the Celtic Connections Festival Club at The Art School around eight years ago. It feels pretty special to be heading back to that stage with a full show of our own.”
Recorded live in-studio, with minimal overdubs, the track reflects the band's desire to let the interplay between musicians’ shine. Additional recording took place in Orkney (Rumley Sounds) and Solas Sounds, with production from John Lowrie and engineering by Stuart Hamilton.
The single is available from 25th July via Bandcamp and all major digital platforms, with exclusive artwork by Somhairle MacDonald.
