The 100-minute documentary offers unprecedented access to the band’s personal archives. The film is the definitive story of one of Scotland’s most popular and iconic bands.
The party starts at 7pm GMT on Saturday, 20th November. To join, fans access the Facebook link Runrig Official Watch Party and UK fans can watch on Sky Arts whilst fans from across the world press play at the same time on their own copy of the film to watch and follow along together - and enjoy the banter.
Band members will contribute with exclusive behind-the-scenes information and the producers from Blazing Griffin will be online to answer technical questions via the Facebook link.
Sky Arts will host a special Runrig evening, showing ‘The Last Dance’ concert film at 10.15pm GMT on Saturday 13th November. The concert film received a Sky Arts audience rating of 9.8.
Runrig founding member Calum MacDonald said: “We’re delighted to see all the positive reaction to the documentary and, especially, for the director, Jack Cocker, who has put so much time, care and creative energy and into the project. Our thanks to Blazing Griffin for hosting yet another online watch party. Similar to The Last Dance Event, it will give fans an opportunity to interact and connect with each other again, together with the opportunity to access extra archive information and share their memories.”
Producer Steven Little said: “We still hope that it will be possible to have an in person premiere one day, but to celebrate the DVD release and UK TV premiere of ‘There Must Be A Place’, a watch party is a great shared experience for the band and fans that we can enjoy together from the comfort of our own homes. The making of this documentary has been a labour of love due to the vast amounts of archive included in the film, and we look forward to sharing some insights into that process during the watch party.”
There Must Be A Place is available in DVD format, Blu-ray and a deluxe coffee table book from Cherry Red Records in the UK and Sony Music Entertainment Germany for fans in Europe.
Earlier in 2021, Runrig had plans for a premiere event to reunite the band with the fans once again but unfortunately, as with many events over the last 18 months, Covid-19 got in the way. However, not to be outdone by the Covid-19 pandemic, Runrig have organsied this event to re-connect with their fans.
During the first lockdown in 2020, Runrig in association with Sky Arts held a live streaming event of Runrig’s final concert, The Last Dance, which was filmed against the backdrop of Stirling Castle. The live stream was watched by 90,000 fans in total and the event trended on Twitter and Facebook as the band and fans exchanged stories and memories from the final concert tour.
About There Must Be A Place
The 100-minute music documentary tells Runrig’s story, an emotional tale of ups and downs, twists and turns, tears of joy and heartbreak. From humble beginnings as a ceilidh band started by two brothers and a friend from the Isle of Skye in 1973, they grew to become one of Scotland’s best-loved groups, selling out concerts from the dance halls of the Scottish Highlands and Islands to New York’s Times Square.
Runrig’s journey ended in 2018 with two emotional farewell concerts under Stirling’s historic castle, where 50,000 fans sang, cried and danced out their memories.
There Must Be A Place is directed by Jack Cocker and produced by Steven Little. Executive Producers include Naysun Alae-Carew, Blazing Griffin, Mark Thomas (Screen Scotland), Helen Searle and Judi Hollings. Picture and post production is by Blazing Griffin Post, John Cobban, Dubbing Mixer, and Jon Bruce, Colourist.
Blazing Griffin filmed and produced Runrig’s 3-hour concert film ‘The Last Dance’ which captures the band’s farewell sell-out concerts at Stirling Castle in August 2018.
Blazing Griffin is a BAFTA-winning Glasgow-based digital entertainment company which specialises in telling stories across a wide range of platforms and mediums with a specific focus on video game development, film and TV development and production and post production services.
