Rusacks St Andrews is celebrating the 150th anniversary of The Open Championship with a series of golf-inspired offerings and new experiences - including The 150 Package offering an overnight stay, as well as the special The 1873 cocktail - for local residents, tourists and golf enthusiasts from around the globe to enjoy. With the annual championship on the hotel’s doorstep, Rusacks St Andrews is a true haven for golf fanatics during this historical year for the now sold-out tournament since it began in 1860.
Opened last September, Rusacks St Andrews is part of Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts, a collection of bespoke hotels in the world’s most distinguished golf destinations. Taking place from 14-17th July, The Open will see record levels of attendance this year. It is set to be the biggest championship yet at the international Home of Golf, with 1.3 million ticket applications from around the world. The Open is expected to drive added tourism and attention to the destination; the 144th Open in St Andrews in 2015 brought £140 million economic benefits to Scotland. This year, it is creating 6,000 jobs for staff working before, during and after the event. And a sensational atmosphere of celebration will sweep the town.
“I am thrilled to see St Andrews blossom with the recent opening of our hotel as well as The Open’s 150th anniversary this year”, said Seamus Coen, General Manager at Rusacks St Andrews. “These two events have tied together so perfectly, and to celebrate we look forward to providing golf fans from all over the world various golf-related offerings this summer. This is the year for once-in-a-lifetime trips to St Andrews, with bucket list travel proving popular following the various lockdowns around the world.”
The 150 Package, available before and after The Open, will include:
• Overnight stay in a room with exquisite views of The Old Course and West Sands Beach
• Entry to the R&A World Golf Museum for two, located opposite the clubhouse of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club
• £150 food and beverage credit (for 150 years of The Open), to be spent at either:
o 18, led by Derek Johnstone, one of Scotland’s most renowned chefs and inaugural winner of MasterChef: The Professionals
o One Under Bar, with beautiful beams and adorned in golf memorabilia, serving the finest pub favourites, beers, whiskies and cocktails
o The Bridge, an airy and more casual restaurant serving a Scottish twist on breakfast options
• In-room golf gifts including Marine & Lawn branded golf tees, a ball marker, Titleist prov1 golf balls
• Breakfast at The Bridge
• From £405 per room per night*
Food & Beverage:
Golf-lovers who book this package will enjoy a range of culinary outlets, led by Derek Johnstone, one of Scotland’s most renowned chefs and inaugural winner of MasterChef: The Professionals, who leads the kitchens as Executive Chef, championing local Scottish produce throughout his menus. The F&B venues include One Under Bar, a traditional Scottish pub; 18, the rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the 1st and 18th holes of the Old Course at St Andrews and the Fife Coast; and The Bridge, a more casual all-day dining option, continuing the theme of championing Scottish produce, a key pillar of Johnstone’s food and drink ethos.
The 1873 cocktail - for a limited time only
To celebrate The Open, the 1873 has been created by the Bar Manager at 18, Kevin Durand and Head Pastry Chef, Chris Nurse. It pays homage to the 13th Open Championship in 1873 as this was the first time it was held at the famous Old Course St Andrews. The well-known Scottish golfer Tom Kidd won the competition and was presented with the Claret Jug on home turf. To champion Scottish suppliers and with sustainability in mind, 18 is using Nadar Vodka as the cocktail base spirit. Nadar meaning “nature” in Gaelic, is a climate positive vodka made from the humble ingredient, the pea. The ginger used for the syrup has been foraged by local foraging company, Couer Sauvage. The Hazelnut chocolate garnish for the cocktail has been created by Head Pastry Chef Chris Nurse. It complements the Wray & Nephew rum which is full of flavour.
The hotel features unrivalled panoramic views of the world’s oldest golf course, with an interior design which celebrates 600 years of world-class golf history. The hotel houses the largest collection of paintings by local artist Joe Austen, known as one of the world’s foremost painters of golf portraits. In the lobby, commissioned portraits depict Mr. Rusacks, the property’s namesake; Old Tom Morris, St Andrews golf legend; and an illustration of the property.
“We’re honoured to be the stewards of the incredible Rusacks St Andrews property as we approach such a historic event in the midst of the iconic golf destination that is St Andrews,” said Phillip Allen, President, Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts. “The tournament will be a fantastic event for locals, golf fans and travellers alike. We’re looking forward to hosting guests throughout the tournament and in the months that follow as they embark upon once-in-a-lifetime experiences in the birthplace of golf.”
Having recently been featured on Travel + Leisure’s renowned “It List” for 2022, which showcases the best new hotels around the world that are at the top of their game, Rusacks St Andrews has established itself as one of the best new hotels around the world.
