Already one of Scotland’s most popular free events, it’s set to become bigger and better with a range of new attractions alongside the much-loved jousting, mock battles, artisan markets, stone-lifting demonstrations, kids’ funfair and medieval crafts.
This year, King Robert the Bruce and his royal court will be joined by other major figures from the city’s rich history. Think of Saint Margaret, King Malcolm Canmore, and of course the world’s most famous industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
Kicking off the festivities will be a formal launch procession from the Louise Carnegie gates to the main arena, led by Dunfermline’s own pipes and drums of the Royal British Legion.
And those with a head for heights will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the Glen and the city, courtesy of a funfair-style big wheel stationed near the park’s highest point.
The aim to provide a great day out for all the family will be boosted by an expanded Kids Zone, where youngsters can enjoy various funfair and play activities - including a ‘School for Squires’ teaching them agility, strength and horsemanship.
Local involvement in the festival is set to expand even further, with the addition of a new Community Arena. This space will allow community groups of all kinds to set out their stalls and connect with the thousands of visitors.
And for the first time, the festival will include a marquee hosting Scottish music acts. Expanding the festival’s appeal by hosting concerts on both Saturday and Sunday evening. Negotiations are at an advanced stage with some very well-known musicians, and we expect to make a big announcement soon. Tickets will be sold separately for this part of the festival.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
