Over the last three years of Russia’s war against Ukraine, journalist and writer Jen Stout has brought the conflict home to readers in Scotland with her evocative firsthand reporting. Originally from Shetland, Jen was living in Moscow when the full scale Russian invasion took place. She raced to the Danube River ports in Romania to report on the refugee exodus and went on to cover the war as a freelancer. Her stories come from trains and birthday parties, military hospitals and underground bunkers told by a writer with a deep sense of empathy, always seeking to understand the bigger picture: the big questions of identity, history, hopes, and fears in this war in Europe. Her talk will be illustrated with her own striking images of wartime Ukraine.
