The tour will celebrate the stories, diversity and varied landscapes of contemporary Scotland, bringing the show to a range of stunning beaches across all corners of Scotland including the Isles of Mull, Skye, Lewis and Benbecula, Highlands (Inverness and Caithness), St Andrews and Ayr. In keeping with the company’s mission to make accessible, exciting, cross-artform theatre for a diverse range of audiences across Scotland all performances are Pay What You Decide.
Inspired by ancient keening rituals, Move is about migration, loss and communal healing. Weaving storytelling, choral soundscape and Gaelic song, five women portray the ebb and flow of people across the globe throughout the ages.
Move will open at Fionnphort Beach, Isle of Mull on 10 June 2022, presented with An Tobar & Mull Theatre who are supporting the tour. Alongside the performances, communities in each location will be offered a unique engagement programme featuring story and song-sharing workshops. The company operates an open rehearsal policy so members of the public can come down to the beach and watch and the show in rehearsal.
Move is the inaugural show from Disaster Plan; a new company led by Julia Taudevin & Kieran Hurley, the award-winning team behind Blow Off, Beats, Heads Up and Chalk Farm. The production is presented in partnership with epic theatre-makers Slung Low.
Every performance is dedicated to the memory of Disaster Plan collaborator and friend Beldina Odenyo who performed in last year’s Edinburgh Fringe production.
Julia Taudevin, Writer & Director and Co-Artistic Director of Disaster Plan comments: “I am delighted to be bringing our epic beach performance about communal healing to a Scotland wide audience this summer. The show began with me travelling across Scotland collecting songs of migration in languages migrant and indigenous to Scotland and it feels fitting to take what that collection has become on the road around Scotland’s glorious beaches including home again to my motherland Lewis where the show began life as an intimate indoor performance.”
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
